About the Author

My name is Martine, and I was born and raised in New York. My parents are from Haiti, and I grew up in a community with quite a large Haitian population. Food that tastes good was not only available, it was expected.

My mother found great pleasure in showing hospitality to many and loved to feed others. I learned this love from her, and so take great joy in sharing my culture and culinary skills with friends, coworkers, and sometimes perfect strangers.

Because I like to feed people, this blog will be mostly about food (or, about me feeding people, anyway).

I’ve always wanted to write a blog, but I’m also pretty sure that everything that needs saying has already been said. I decided to start one anyway to give myself the opportunity to write and to have a place to store my feelings/viewpoints/recipes for future use. Who knows? Maybe someone else will even find it useful (or at least interesting).

I’m very open to feedback! If you have any questions or comments, feel free to email them to martine@tastebudsrequired.com.

Happy eating!
Martine

  2. Hey you!

Awesome site. How long have you had it? I like the simplicity. I wanted to use WordPress also but the learning curve is too sharp for me right now. Instead, I’m using Tumblr (jnthnmdr.tumblr.com). It’s very new. Anyways, I noticed you need a new head shot. Let me know. They’re free for long time friends. Talk to you soon.

    • Hey! I would love a new headshot (and food pics!), but unless you’re flying out to Seattle, that might be tough for now. Let’s talk the next time I’m in NY. Thanks for reading, I’ll definitely check out your tumblr.

I actually just started this about a month ago, so much more to come!

  3. Martine, would love to share one of your blogs on my haitian american blog, with your permission of course, and a link to your blog. Would that be ok?

  4. Hi Martine! I live in Seattle, WA and am taking a group of college students to Haiti this winter break! Do you know of any Haitian restaurants or chefs in the Seattle area who would be willing to teach us to make some Haitian specialties and talk to us about Haitian culture? I would love any and all connections you might have as we prepare for this trip! Thank you!!!

    • In Seattle? Definitely no. There used to be a Haitian food truck, but I’m not sure if it’s still around, and I don’t personally know the owner.

Have you tried any if the recipes on the blog?

Sounds like a cool trip. Sorry I couldn’t help more.
